About Me:
I'm Richard Blake, an English teacher at PHS. I've been teaching since the dawn of the new millennium (2001), and I bring a lot of experience, interests, and enthusiasm to the classroom. Yes, admittedly, I do enjoy reading--an unavoidable requirement for most English teachers--but my tastes range widely and eclectically: While deep and tedious novels are a favorite of mine (i.e. Melville's Moby Dick, Danielewski's House of Leaves, or anything else that requires extensive footnotes and exacting scholarly commentary), I also enjoy books about philosophy, psychology, technology, culture, and ancient theology. Lastly, let us not forget poetry. I adore poetry. I examine and savor poetry. I write poetry. I've even published a few poems (believe it or not). Cinema is also a huge interest and studying how directors use cinematography, editing, sound, and mise-en-scène to create their works of art. My favorite directors are the Wachowskis, Jim Jarmusch, the Coen brothers, and Robert Eggers.

With my family, I have lived in Washington state (not to be confused with Washington, DC), South Korea, and lastly Montana--West Yellowstone, to be exact. We're all really excited to have finally landed in Polson. My family includes my beautiful, brilliant, and intuitive wife; my amazingly loving and creative daughter (seven years old); my stepson (computer genius and polyglot); and my artistic, long-distance son (twelve years old and living in Florida). We enjoy hiking, biking, camping, and occasionally traveling. We do not enjoy moving or paying federal taxes.
