Graduation Ceremony Plans

Graduation Ceremony Plans

Dear Students and Parents,

Although we have all been faced with challenges over the last few months of our lives, and graduation will not be the same as traditional ceremonies of the past, we will still be celebrating our seniors and providing a memorable experience to close our school year.  Our team has worked tirelessly to do everything we can to make the 2020 Graduation a special time for you.  If you’ve met all of the PHS graduation requirements, you will graduate from Polson High School on June 7th, at 1:00 p.m, in the Pirate Sports Complex. This will not be the usual ceremony that we have had for many years, but it will be a unique and formal setting allowing the class of 2020 to be together for a short time with their parents/guardians as we stream the event.

I want to thank our team for putting in the hours of work to make the following plan a reality:  Mr. Sampson, Mrs. Wade, Ms. Graves, and all of the students and parents who have met in the last couple of weeks to prepare for the 2020 Graduation Ceremony.  There will be two parts to graduation this year: a virtual celebration beginning at 10:00 am with all of the pre- recorded speeches and scholarship announcements, and the awarding of diplomas at 1:00 PM which will be streamed on the PHS website and broadcast over the radio on 99.7 by Anderson Broadcasting.

After taking into consideration the Governor's recommendation, and working with the Lake County Health Department, we developed a plan to have all graduates and up to four family members attend the ceremony safely.   We will be following the Social Distancing Guidelines and take the precaution of wearing masks.  There will not be access to a public restroom.

The plan is to have families seated in alphabetical order in pods around the track.  All pods will be separated by six feet and will have the student’s graduation photo sign in the front of the pod.  Graduates will be seated in front of their guests.  We will not have a graduation practice, so we will guide you through the ceremony.  The ceremony will follow the usual order of commencement minus the student speeches to be broadcast that morning.
