Kindergarten Fall Intake, Staggered Start Schedule and Masks
Dear Kindergarten Parents,
My name is Rhonda Crowl, and I am the Principal at Cherry Valley Elementary. The Cherry Valley staff and I would like to welcome you to the 2020-21 Cherry Valley Kindergarten Program. We want your child’s first days in Kindergarten to be successful and as stress-free as possible. We have our Kindergarten Fall Intake and Staggered Start planned in order to help you and your Kindergarten student make a smooth transition into the school environment. This letter will highlight those events, so please read carefully. If you have ANY questions or concerns, please call the Cherry Valley Office at 883-6333 to leave a message and the school secretaries or principal will return your call as soon as possible. Due to the uncertainty created by the Covid-19 Coronavirus, the times and dates of these events could change based on advice and guidance from the state, county and/or local health departments. Kindergarten Fall Intake-August 26-28th
The 2020-21 Fall Kindergarten Intake will be held at Cherry Valley Elementary School by appointment only on August 26th , 27th and 28th. At that scheduled appointment your student will be assessed by the Kindergarten and Title 1 staff in the areas of Developmental Readiness, Early Literacy and Math Skills. Class placements will be made after all the Fall Intake appointments are completed. You will be notified by phone of your child’s class placement after 3:00pm on August 29th.
The office secretaries will be returning to school on August 12th and will begin scheduling appointments at that time. They will be calling you to schedule an appointment, or you can call the office at 883-6333 beginning August 12th from 9-3.
*August 26-27th: Kindergarten Fall Intake Testing 9:00-2:30
*August 28th: Kindergarten Fall Intake Testing 9:00-11:30
*Please bring the following documents to your appointment-Immunization records, student’s birth certificate, and Tribal enrollment number if applicable.
ATTENTION PARENTS:
The Kindergarten Staggered Start Schedule previously sent out has been changed to align to the PSD#23 Covid Reopening Plan and will follow the calendar included in that document beginning August 31st.
Kindergarten Start Schedule: September
Monday-Thursday 8:25-3:10, No School on Fridays
August 31st-September 1st : School will be held for Kindergarten students with last name A-K only (Student Names L-Z WILL NOT ATTEND THESE DAYS :)
September 2-3rd : School will be held for students with last name L-Z only. (Student Names A-L WILL NOT ATTEND THESE DAYS :)
Friday, September 4th: No School
Monday, September 7th : Labor Day NO SCHOOL
Tuesday, September 8th: Kindergarten students will begin attending school as indicated in the PSD#23 Covid Reopening Plan (Mon/Tues: students A-K and Wed-Thur: students L-Z)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The PSD#23 Covid Reopening Plan (Phase 2) requires the use of masks in school by all to ensure the safety of students and staff. Although Cherry Valley staff will be utilizing outdoor learning opportunities and recesses to give our young students a break from wearing masks, it is critical that they begin getting used to wearing them appropriately. Please visit with your child about wearing masks in school and begin practicing their use. We will be working with our young students as well on appropriate mask use in positive and fun ways, but support from home will make the transition less stressful for young children. Thank you for your help and support in this area.
