Celebrate Homecoming '99



Move over Julius Caesar ... Spirit week celebrants dawn togas during the Homecoming week dress up days.

Turn up the tunes and let's dance - PHS students celebrate the end of the Homecoming festivities at the dance sponsored by Close-Up from 9:30 - midnight on Oct. 9 following the Lady Pirates basketball victory over Corvallis.

Schmalfuss, Davis reign at Homecoming celebrations

Seniors Roland Schmalfuss and Diana Davis were crowned Homecoming King and Queen at halftime of the Oct. 8 football game against Ronan by last year's homecoming royalty Vern Hewankorn and Amy Woodger. Schmalfuss and Davis were sponsored by the Junior class.

Seniors took first place honors in the Spirit Wall competition with the Juniors coming in second, followed by the Sophomores.

Other candidates were James Pearston and Jodi Vandenbos for the senior class, Andy Fors and Cari Fischer represented the sophomores, and Jake Sloan and Brianna Shockey were nominated by the freshmen class.

Schmalfuss is an exchange student from Germany. He has participated in Judo, soccer club, and was elected a class representative. Hiking and traveling are among his favorite activities. Gary and Geri Gauthier are his host parents for the school year.

Davis is and honor roll student who participates in Letter Club, varsity softball and Lady Pirate Basketball. She is involved in class activities and was a member of the junior class prom committee. She enjoys spending time with friends and recreating on the lake. Davis's parents are Dean and Denise Davis and Debbie Davis.

Pearston is vice-president of the Board of Governors and a member of the varsity football team. Music, motorcycling, hunting, fishing, and hanging out with friends are among his many interests. James and Nancy Pearston are his parents.

Vandenbos is a member of Letter Club, has been involved in 4-H, spirit wall committee, and community service projects. She has participated in basketball, track, and has served as track manager. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends. Her parents are Isola Vandenbos and Jim and Nancy Vandenbos.

Fors is president of National Honor Society, a member of Key Club, and Letter Club. He served as a Boys' State Delegate and is a Parish Council member. Fors is active in the Catholic Youth Group and is a team captain of this year's varsity football team. He has been a member of the varsity basketball and tennis team. Hiking, fishing, and snow skiing are among his many interests. Sandi and Paul Fors are his parents.

Fisher is an honor roll student who is serving as this year's Board of Governors treasurer. She was chosen as last year's Girls' State Alternate and is a member of Letter Club and Catholic Youth Group. She is a co-captain of this year's Lady Pirate Basketball team and has participated in golf. She is a member of symphonic band and enjoys snow skiing, water skiing, fly fishing, and hiking. Her parents are Clint and Chris Fischer.

Sloan is a co-captain of this year's football team and has been a member of Key Club. He has also participated in wrestling. In his spare time, Sloan enjoys hiking, biking, lifting weights, recreating on the lake and spending time with friends. Jim and Ellen Sloan are his parents.

Shockey is an honor roll student, a member of National Honor Society, a member of Letter Club, the senior class secretary, and was a Girls' State Delegate. She has participated in cross country, volleyball, and was co-captain of the track team. She is a member of the Foursquare Youth Group and enjoys roller-blading, running, and hiking. Her parents are Jim and Julia Manley and Terry Shockey.


Burn, baby, burn! Students celebrate the lighting of the bonfire held Thursday, Oct. 7. The bonfire was brought back by BOG and replaced the traditional parade. It included food served at a tailgate party and a pep rally during the fire, at which time coaches spoke about their teams.
