Background
The 1998 MVSMO got its start at a monthly meeting of the Reservation-wide
High Plains Rural Systemic Initiative. The HPRSI advisory board has been working hard since 1996 to encourage the development of exciting and culturally relevant Math and Science activities for all our students in all of our Reservation schools.

Many of our members were frustrated by the difficulty of fielding a Olympiad team each year. Somehow it always seemed as if the snow storms always hit just as we had to drive all the way over the pass to Bozeman, MT for the State competition!

Some districts managed to weather the storms, only to suffer from the falling budget ax! It was becoming increasingly expensive to transport, feed and house a team so far from home. Especially a team that does not (yet) enjoy the luxury of being able to charge real money to allow its wild and cheering fans to attend its competitions!

Also, be sure to check out our collection of competition photos from past years (above).
