GENERAL NEWS:

The spring drivers ed applications will be available starting Monday, February 26th in the main office.

Baseball signups will be Tuesday, February 27th and Thursday, March 1st from 5om to 7pm at Sweet Bliss.

Permission slips for school related absent for the Boys Basketball divisional tournament are now available in the office. Reminder that this slip must be signed and returned before you are leave. No calls or handwritten notes will be accepted.

Rita Sand, Academic Advisor for American Indian Students at MSU will be at Polson High School next Wednesday, Feb. 28, to visit with Native American sophomores and juniors interested in finding out more about what MSU has to offer them and how her office can support you. She’ll be here at 12:15 with FOOD!!! Please let the school counselors know if you’d like to meet with her by the end of this week. We need to get a head count for lunch.

SKC Career Fair is on Tuesday, Feb. 27th. Students can attend a workshop on "Workplace Perspectives and Career Pathways" and network with 60+ potential employers. This is a great opportunity to find part-time employment, summer jobs, and internships. Lunch will be provided. If you're interested in attending, please see Mrs. Wade in the School Counseling Office by Friday, Feb 23rd at the latest.

Create Your Statement Girls Getaway is March 9-11 for 9th-12th grade girls. Are you interested in a fun-filled weekend of educational empowerment, games, outdoor activities, food, crafts and connection with friends? More information about registration, visit the School Counseling Office.

The Spring Hunters Education Class will start Tuesday, February 27th at SKC. For more information, stop by the office.

JUNIORS! Applications are now being accepted for Montana Boys State & Montana Girls State. They will both be held on the campus of Carroll College in Helena. Girls State will take place June 10 - 16. Boys State will take place June 3 - 8. Please see Mrs. Johnson or Mrs. Wade if you are interested in attending.

Are you interested in a career in the hospitality industry? Consider attending the Career Exploration Field trip to Kwataqnuk Resort on Wednesday, February 28th. Please see Mrs. Wade in the Counseling Office ASAP to pick up a permission slip. Permission slips are due Fri. Feb. 23rd.

Any LINK Leaders interest in helping with the Special Olympic event on Monday Feb. 26th see Kris in the office to sign up.

Attention freshmen! The Polson Rotary Club will be sponsoring at least 2 Polson High School freshmen students to attend the 2018 Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) camp held at Luccock Park Camp near Livingston, MT, July 10-14, 2018. Applications are due by March 30th. Pick up an application in the School Counseling Office.

Reminder to Students that school activities passes are not valid for Post season play

Our math teachers have permission slips for those of you who are going to the MCTM Math contest. You must turn in your signed permission slip with your $5 deposit TO MRS. HOXIE by March 1st. We only have 50 spots on the high school bus. The last 7 students who sign up will have to ride the middle school bus. Please get your permission slip from your math teacher today!

2018 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest---The 14th Amendment/What Does Equal Protection Mean to Students? Open to students in grades 9 - 12. Students may enter and essay or a video. Cash prizes will be awarded in both categories--up to $2,000. First place winners will also be invited to the 2018 Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference in Anaheim, California. Entry deadline is April 1, 2018. More information can be found in the Counseling Office or online at http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/civicscontest

CPR/AED Reminder - February is Heart Health Month. St Joe's if offering free CPR/AED classes every Saturday in February from 9-11 and 1-3. Each school building has an AED. This is an excellent opportunity for you to learn how to use them and review the latest recommendations for CPR. Class size is limited so please call early to set up a time to attend.

GUIDANCE ANNOUNCEMENTS:

2018 Yellowstone Youth Conservation Corps is now taking applications. Two separate month long sessions are being offered. Participants will be required to live in Yellowstone Park. Room & Board will be provided at a minimal cost. Wages are $7.25/hour. Application deadline is March 1. More information is available in the Counseling Center.

Schwanke Honors Institute - Summer Semester at UM - June 10 - 22, 2018 Courses offered this summer: Creative Writing in the Environment, Sustainability: What's Your Footprint? , and National Parks and American Wilderness. Earn 3 college credits plus 1 semester credit at PHS. Students are housed on campus. Estimated cost of the program is $1,500. Scholarships are available. Application deadline is April 1, 2018

FBI National Academy Associates 2018 Youth Leadership Program Open to students ages 14 - 16 with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrated good citizenship. This is an 8-day program of leadership development at the FBI Academy. The program is not limited to those interested in a future career in law enforcement, but candidates should possess a desire to gain knowledge of the American system of criminal justice. June 21 - 29, 2018 in Washington, D.C. Applications are due March 16.

Montana Area Health Education Center (AHEC) MedStart Program is a 5-day summer camp designed to encourage sophomore and junior high school students to pursue their interest in a variety of healthcare careers. Cost to attend MedStart is $500, but there are multiple scholarships available based on need and/or merit. Camps are held in Missoula, Billings, Great Falls, Miles City, and Butte. Application deadline is March 9, 2018.

Any students who enjoy working with kids - an organization in Polson called Child Bridge is looking for volunteers to help with child care the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 5:30-8:00pm at New Life Church. This would be an excellent SERVE project opportunity! For more information, please see Mrs. Wade in the Counseling Office.
