Dear Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Cherry Valley School and our kindergarten classroom.
My name is Doug Crosby and I have taught at Cherry Valley for the past eight years. I have previously taught grades K-3 in New Zealand and I am really looking forward to working with your family this year.
I view this coming school year as a partnership between myself and you as parents. Over the years I have found the following suggestions to be helpful to parents of elementary age children.
** The school day is a busy and active one, please insure your child has an appropriate bed time and a good breakfast so they will be rested and ready for the new school day.**
**Set aside some time with your child to share the happenings of the school day, this may involve such activities as reading a book together or going over your child's work that they bring home.**
** Creative play is important in the way a kindergartner learns. If your child is an avid TV watcher or video game player please consider limiting these activities so they will have ample time to develop play.**

I would also like your help in a couple of other areas. First of all, could you please write a brief message introducing me to your child, some things to include would be: likes and interests; strengths and weaknesses; specific needs and your expectations for your child in kindergarten.
Secondly, I would appreciate any of the following items:
-egg cartons
-plastic containers (cool whip etc.)
-yogurt cups -meat trays
-paper towel & toilet rolls
-popsicle sticks
-drinkable yogurt bottles
-scrap material
-old broken small appliances (for kids to take apart)
or any other unusual materials you think might be useful, these are things that I use extensively in the classroom .
Each day your child will have the opportunity to drink milk. This is available for 25 cents a day. I would prefer you pay for a month ($5.00) or the whole year at ($45.00). Please send or bring money to me.
I would like to invite you to visit our classroom anytime and if you have any comments, questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call me at school.
Doug Crosby
